Hanging out with the llama is the "way cool" thing to do these days. Crackerjack has developed quite a following. The lambs toddle along with him in the pasture and gravitate toward him at rest time in the barn. They're fascinated by his fiber, always nibbling at the bits of straw stuck to his fleece. I feel a little sorry about him never getting a break and sneak him handfuls of grain when the ewes aren't looking. He deserves it. In fact, I think Crackerjack deserves his own fan club. He's an amazing guy and we love him.
Would you like to join Crackerjack's fan club? Just post a comment saying why you're a Crackerjack fan or maybe share your favorite Crackerjack story(or encounter if you've ever met him in person). I'll draw a winner for a special prize - 2 skeins of Upland Wool & Mohair - next Friday.
I have my own little following - the bottle lambs who are becoming more insistent now that ewes' milk supply is backing down. I'm cutting back the amount at each feeding as we count down to weaning and they like it not one bit, as you can see from Pumpkin here demanding more! It's getting to be quite a scrum at feeding time. I'm putting fresh sweet hay in the feeder a half hour before bottles and they're really loving it. Then they get a couple ounces of milk to wash it down - kind of like milk & cookies for lambs.
Thanks everyone for your get well wishes. I'm still feeling a little ragged but less sore in the throat and not sneezing every five minutes. Packing for my big weekend in the Big Apple. Really looking forward to meeting the Big Apple Knitters Guild tomorrow.
Happy Friday!

I think the video you had recently of the lambs jumping over and around Crackerjack was one of the sweetest things I've seen here. He just has the best attitude- and an adorable face.

Have a wonderful weekend Barb! Like Helena I love his spotted gray fleece/blanket. The spots on his face remind me of a red-headed child covered in freckles! He has that proud regal look about him. Do the lambs ever climb on his back?

Crackerjack just seems like the best nanny in the world. Watchful, authoritative, tolerant, mellow.

I'm a Crackerjack fan. I love how he is like the true big brother to all the lambs. I also love his coloring have you ever spun up any of his fiber??

Oh I am so thrilled that Crackerjack is getting a well-deserved fan club. Will there be membership cards? How about a secret Crackerjack fan-club handshake?
Just from reading your blog, I have fallen in love with Crackerjack. Whether he is in the midst of a horde of lambs or keeping company with laboring ewes, he always looks perfectly composed and unruffled. He holds his head erect with pride, as if to say: "I'm a llama. It's not always and easy job, but I sure am equal to the task. I don't think that those humans could manage too well without me."

I'm a fan of crackerjack just because he has the coolest coloring of any llama I have ever seen. He is so handsome.

Who the heck wouldn't want to be a Crackerjack fan? He's an extraordinary creature-almost "other worldly".
Didn't you have a second llama too? Is she (?) still with you?

Well, you heard at Mass S&W about my son thinking your Llama was a weird looking giraffe. That's got to be good for a laugh. :)
Enjoy the big apple.

I love that Crackerjack is getting a fan club! I loved the picture of him watching over Mystic and her lambs, while also keeping an eye on the lambs who were outside the barn. What a great guy!
Living in Ecuador, I get to see llamas often and there is a small flock in the park near our house. They are great to watch and are so regal. None have the coloring of Crackerjack though!

I love his underbite in the picture today - too cute. I can't think of who he looks like.

My son (3 yrs. old) and I are Crackerjack fans because we think he is so loyal and cuddly and takes his job seriously like you. He is one handsome llama. Not only does he look like he's always smiling but he looks proud to be in charge of the "little ones". He is well loved! Three cheers for Crackerjack!!!
Hope you're feeling better too!

I'm a big fan of Crackerjack! Anyone that can handle a mess of pestering kids and still have a smile on his face (like in today's first picture) deserves a fan club! Plus his coat is lovely!

Awesome pic of him! He is adorable and seems thoroughly tolerant of the lambs.

You can see the concern Crackerjack has for his flock and how he is always on guard, always caring. Everyone should have a friend like Crackerjack in their life.

I am relatively new to your website. I found it and spent most of a weekend reading through the archives. I became very enamored with Crackerjack during this weekend. How he stays with the sheep during labor, keeps the lambs amused and safe. I am sure the sheep in general are big Crackerjack fans, especially the Moms as he seems to make their life easier. He seems like a very cool dude!

Well, I like crakerjack and want to be part of his fan club because I think he is one cool dude, in all of the pictures that you post of him, not once has he lost his composure, he looks majestic in all of them

I am a Crackerjack fan! He takes his role in your enterprise very seriously. He has done a lot to promote the positive attributes of his species in my opinion. Thank you for sharing!

I am a Crackerjack fan!! I only have 3 small children.... I wish I had his patience!

You must have been reading my mind. I've been thinking poor old Crackerjack has been getting the short end of the attention stick with all the focus on the lambs.
If there's a fan club, there must be a Crackerjack decoder ring. Just sayin'.

How funny that you should be doing this. I've only been reading a few weeks, but from day one I "bonded" with Crackerjack. I have a new-to-me collie (tri-color, so he's black and white, too), who is kind of goofy and very shaggy and the minute I saw Crackerjack, I said, "That explains it! Vinny's actually a llama!" I heart Crackerjack.

Crackerjack is just The Boss! He rules....and deserves a fan club, for sure. Glad to hear you are starting to feel better. Whatever it was had me down and out for over two weeks! Enjoy the Big City!

Crackerjack is a sweetheart with patience to spare!

I have to say that Crackerjack is my kind of guy. In fact I think he may me Springdelle Farms own version of the Dalai Lama! I think this is such a great idea to have a fan club in his honor and I am so happy to become a member. Thanks for the great idea Barb...

Crackerjack deserves his own fan club -- what a great idea. I wish I knew a human version of Crackerjack, someone calm and wise you could always turn to for guidance. Glad to hear you are feeling better, Barb! Enjoy the Big Apple.
