Granny Smith!

The only apple I really love is the Honeycrisp, which would make a lovely lamb name. (Though I voted for Shakespear.)

I found some lesser-known names in my apple cookbook: Mutsu, Lodi, Melrose, Newtown Pippin, Wellington, Patricia, Paula Red, Stayman, and, while not that unusual, my maiden name...Baldwin!

Yay for apples! Here are a few:
Pippin
Gravenstein
Empire
Winesap
Granny Smith
Braeburn
Cortland
Ginger Gold
Jonathan
Honeycrisp

the possibilities are endless!!

I looked up apple varieties, and there are lots of fun ones I hadn't heard of before:
albany beauty, battleford, belle de boskoop,
bolero, captain kidd, discovery, fortune, rome beauty, spartan...
but Jonagold, Gala and Pink Lady are some of my favorite apples to eat.

Apple varieties...holy cow, there are so many!
Alexander, American Beauty, Anoka, Arkansas Black, Baldwin, Beacon, Ben Davis, Beverly Hills, Black Twig, Blue Pearmain, Brogden, Chenango Strawberry, Connell, Cortland, Cox Orange, Delicious, Dolgo, Red Duchess, Duchess of Oldenburg, Empire, Fall Pippin, Fameuse, Fireside, Golden Russet, Grannie Smith, Gravenstein, Grimes Golden, Haralson, Heyer, Honeygold, Fuji, Hubbardston, Jonathan, Jersey Mac, Lady, Lobo, Lodi, Maiden's Blush, Melba, Miami, Milton, Morgan, Mutsu, Northern Spy, Northwest Greening, Oriole, Osman, Paula Red, Peach, Porter, Pound Sweet, Prairie Spy, Prima, Priscilla, Pumpkin Sweet, Puritan, Quinte, Red Baron, Red Siberian, Redwell, Regent, Reid, Rome, Seek-no-further, Sheepnose!!!!, Smokehouse, Spigold, Stayman, Tolman Sweet, Tropical Beauty, Wealthy, Westfield, Winesap, Winter Banana, Wiregrass, Wolf River,

So many of these lend themselves well to becoming names for lambs. List stolen from"Fruits and Berries for the Home Garden" by Lewis Hill c. 1977

Jonagold? Pink Lady (or maybe just Pink)? So exciting! I loved following the font names last year as they were born - did you ever post the full list?

I just tried a new variety that was is my local store. It's called "Opal". They are very sweet and crisp. My new favorite apple.

Pippin and Ida Red.

My favorite apple to eat is called a lady apple. It's tiny compared to most apples... about 3 bites and your done.

Some others

Fuji
Crispin
Nittany
Ida Red Marquis
Harrel Red
Priscilla
Jonamac
Jonnee
Coutland
Pink Pearl

whoops I'm meant Courtland.

Hi Barb,
I looked up apple varieties that are grown in Saskatchewan. Apples grown here have to be very hardy to withstand our long harsh winters. Surely any lamb with a Saskatchewan apple name will grow to be a healthy, hardy sheep. Here's some names - some better than others for lambs:
Norda
Rescue
Goodland
Battleford
Parkland
Norland
Patience
Red Mike(can't you just picture a lamb with this name?)
Petrofka Mac (this one is named after the Petrofka Bridge in Saskatchewan which is where an apple orchard is located)
Autumn Delight
Granny Annie
Misty Rose
Prairie Sensation
I can't believe how much fun I'm having with this - thanks for the opportunity!

I have a cox pippin orange tree.

From part of my orchard: Junaluska, Fox, Calville Blanc, Saint Cecilia, Nehou, Shockley, Carter's Blue, Holland, Cauley, Shell, Joy, Hewe's Virginia, Yates, Anna, Dorsett Golden, Carolina Red June, and Aunt Rachel

Sheep nose ( Black Gilliflower), Lady Apple, Sops in Wine,Maiden's Blush,Crab Apple,(for a cranky lamb),Baldwin,
Barbara g has discovered some of the best.

Thomas Jefferson's favorite apple was the Spitzenberg...somehow, I don't think that's a good lamb name. lol

Cameo, Lady, Aurora, Fuji, Bolero, Pippin, Jonathan; and, looking above, I love Robin's Opal.

Honeycrisp, Pink Lady, and Cameo are my favorite. Oh and Braeburn!! I hope you name a lamb Pink Lady and one Granny Smith just because it would be funny. And I'm dorky like that. :)

Jazz!

ipod, iphone, ipad, ...

(sorry, couldn't resist! LOL)

My favorite apples are a newish variety -- Opal!

If you have a particularly robust ewe lamb, one could call her "Sonya". The Sonya apples I've seen at market are HUGE!

I hope one lamb ends up with "spy" - one of my favorite cooking apples, and a great name for an inquisitive lamb.

Bramley, Codling, catshead, winter queening and Laxtons superb

The lamb picture is fabulous

You could also name them apple-related names:

Crisp, Cider, Strudel, Pie, Juice, Brown-Betty, Donut, etc

Dutchess and Jubilee
