Yesterday brought four new arrivals - and one unwelcome guest.
After the exciting entrance of Donatella's twin ewe-lings, Java quietly delivered a sweet ram lamb while I was at dinner. I found him resting in the straw beside her. After ushering them into a lambing jug she delivered a second sturdy ram lamb. I don't have pics to post yet, but please join me in welcoming our new apples: Braeburn & Baldwin.
While all eyes were on the barn yesterday, our bird feeders at home were attacked by a bear. Tree limbs ripped from trees. Feeders in pieces on the ground. Right beside the house. We love feeding birds at this time of year and seeing the return of old friends. But that may all have to change.
In the meantime, I thought you'd like to see how our oldest lambs, a full two-weeks old now, are growing and playing. Mac, Duchess and Pippin have formed their own little clique. It is an absolute hoot to watch them scamper, spar and prong from one end of the nursery to the other. Bailey's lambs, Pink Lady and Jonathan, try to join in but being a full week behind developmentally, they haven't quite got "the moves" down just yet. So funny to watch them trying to figure it out.
Here are a few scenes from the nursery pen:
MacIntosh & Duchess - a little sibling rivalry (my sister and I were the same way growing up!)
PIppin is our leaping champ; she can scale a straw bale in a single bound.
Jonathan and Pink Lady still cling to momma. It's time for the sweaters to come off. How do you like Bailey's new coat?

The lambs are growing! Nice to see some action in the nursery but also some quiet times with Bailey's twins. Sweet!

Heh, Bailey's gone camo! Love it. Congrats on the new ram-lings. Their names are perfect! I was wondering when the sexes would even out some. The new growth of fleece on the older sisters heads is adorable.

Beatiful and sweet pictures. Thank you. How scary, though, to think that a bear has been so close! Hope all goes smoothly and the bear if long gone.

It's amazing the change just two weeks makes. They do all look so sweet.
Bears. Hmmmmm. The worst we have is turkeys at the feeders!

Hi, Just thought you would get a kick out of knowing that when I watched the video I had to turn off the sound because my Aussie was running around in the house very upset looking for the lost lamb.
I retired my Cormos and have only 1 Moorit ewe lamb this year. She's very pretty! Betsy Neal

Awww, so sweet!! Now, while I love bears, that's a little too close! I'm so glad no one was injured by the bear - very scary - early wanderer looking for food?
MacIntosh and Duchess are so funny - what a standoff!

love, love, love the lamb pics!
I've had similar problems with bears this time of year - many smashed feeders. One time a bear with muddy paws tried to climb up our living room window to get to a feeder hung under the eaves! They can be soooo hungry.

So very sweet. I love their fluffy little heads. Glad everyone is safe!

Love, love, love the pictures! Thanks so much for sharing.
Have you reported the bear to the state or county extension guys? My sister had one at their house in MI and the extension guys said to take down the feeders until the bear has passed through.
